About My Work

Through years of professional practice and extensive advanced training I understand why talk therapy sometimes isn't enough, and how a more holistic mind-body approach can lead to an improved quality of life that could not have been achieved otherwise.

I often describe myself as a talk therapist with somatic (body-based) expertise. Bringing awareness to what happens in our bodies as we talk about difficult thoughts and feelings expands our capacity to heal. Isn’t it curious that so much of our feeling language describes physical sensations-gut wrenching, heart warming, bundle of nerves, butterflies in my stomach, weight of the world on my shoulders, choked up, cold feet, all smiles, the list goes on.

I offer a combination of mindfulness, somatic (body-focused) and talk based therapies to help people uncover the wisdom that is already inside them and to develop new skills and strategies to address the challenges they face.  Much of the focus of my work is helping people heal the trauma from negative childhood experiences, or life threatening experiences that may have occurred in adulthood. While no one can change the past, my expertise in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, partswork and other mindfulness based practices can help change one’s present relationship to the painful experiences of their past.

My clients tend to be curious, reflective and insightful.  They are looking for relief of symptoms and healthier ways to respond to life stressors.

Accompanying people through life transitions of all kinds- big and small, is incredibly rewarding work.

I love what I do!

Education and Experience

My knowledge of brain science and the mind-body connection grew out of my early training as an Occupational Therapist.  My life long interest in mental health led to a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling.  My early work as a Hospice grief counselor broadened my understanding of the human capacity to heal from deep pain. It also provided me with an opportunity to work with people whose losses were sudden and often traumatic.

My years-long, advanced training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy changed the way I work!  It brought a new level of skill and a way of helping people overcome difficult past experiences to find new meaning and purpose in life. In addition to Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, I have advanced training in other trauma-informed treatment modalities including EFT, Integrative Restoration (mindfulness/meditation), Psychological First Aid & Post-Traumatic Stress Management.
